High Tatras hut-to-hut trek and Kraków

Cross the High Tatras from Slovakia into Poland, then finish in Kraków. Mirando al Sur’s nine-day journey combines five hut-to-hut trekking stages with time to explore the city.

The route visits Belianske Tatry, Zelené Pleso and Vel’ká Studená, the Gerlach area and Rysy before descending towards Zakopane. It is for experienced, fit mountain walkers: some stages reach 18 km, around 1,450 m ascent and seven to nine hours.

Your mountain trip with Mirando al Sur

Linking lakes, passes and huts creates a continuous mountain journey. Packing is arranged around the five-day traverse, so confirm what you carry between overnight stops.

Kraków provides a different pace after the mountains. Cultural activities are planned, with Auschwitz-Birkenau as an optional guided visit focused on historical remembrance; availability and booking conditions need confirmation.

Frequently asked questions

Is the trip eight or nine days?

This developed programme has nine days: arrival, five trekking stages, time in Kraków and departure.

How does it differ from the High Tatras walking trip?

This is the more demanding hut-to-hut traverse. The other programme uses mountain hotels and more moderate routes; compare the daily effort against your experience.

How demanding is the Rysy stage?

The published reference is 18 km, 1,450 m ascent, 1,300 m descent and seven to nine hours. It is demanding mountain terrain rather than an easy stroll.

Where do we stay during the traverse?

The route links Zelené Pleso, Zbojnícka, Popradské Pleso and Przedni Staw Polski, with half board as stated. Ždiar and Kraków use hotels with breakfast.

Is Auschwitz-Birkenau compulsory?

No. It is optional. Confirm availability, guiding language, tickets and cost with the agency when arranging the Kraków stay.

Are all meals and visits included?

No. Accommodation includes the stated meal plans, but Kraków meals, packed lunches, drinks and services not listed as included are separate costs.

Can the traverse run at any time of year?

No. Trails, huts and mountain conditions have seasonal restrictions. The departure must be confirmed against a practicable route and available accommodation.
